Description

Tristan, the Banished Prince

Tristan, the banished prince. So as I was drawing my merman for this "Mermay" challenge, this story manifested for him in my mind:

While Triton had many daughters, he only had one son. Triton was a terribly stubborn and cruel ruler of the seas and the thought of passing down his kingdom simply mortified him. Banished to live outside of the ruling kingdom, Tristan grew envious and saddened by his father's decision. When old enough, he returned to steal the conch that Triton used to call forth mighty storms from. Tristan believed this object was rightfully his to inherit. Unbeknownst to him however, the conch was laced with a black spell casted upon those who may try and take it for themselves. This spell caused any speech to materialize as black bubbles, only to have the words be heard once they popped in the waters surface. Tristan now searches the sea for someone to help him without the ability to explain how. 🌑

I love the details you have put into this. And the story behind it makes it more intriguing. I think it would have been awesome to make a mini comic strip of the small story you thought of. I do wonder though, how do you come up with all that detail you put into your work? Do you use some kind of reference or is it all from imagination?
